Amongst UP’s eminent glass product manufacturers, Glasstick manufactures, trades and sells different kinds of glass products including tumblers, tableware, and decoratives. Since the production of glass is commonly done by two methods – glass blowing and float glass; the glass blowing method is used for manufacturing honey jars.
Firstly, the design of the jars is done scientifically based on the requirement. The shape of the glass plays an important role in deciding the characteristics of the product stored in it. For example, if the candle jars are not carefully designed, the aroma of the candle wax may not completely diffuse into the air around. After designing the jar, a three-dimensional image is modeled on the computer using various software.
Necessary changes are made after the consent of the clients. Then, a prototype is made by hand. An oak mold is made according to the client’s needs, and molten hot semifluid glass is poured. A blower is used to maintain the right pressure and supply of air. After the glass is blown in, it sets in about 20 seconds. Then, after slightly warming the mould, another round of glass addition is done. If required, another round of glass addition may be done. After this, it is pressed, and the base is made.

If this design is approved by the in-house quality control department, it is sent to the client for approval. After the feedback from the client is received, the necessary steps are taken to modify the design. If it is completely approved, it is sent for mass production.
In the factory, a huge mechanized system is put in place to manufacture large numbers of these jars. The main raw material in the manufacture of glass products is sand. About 70-75% of glass is sand. Soda is used to lower the melting point of glass, which is otherwise around 1400 degrees Celsius. Lime is also added to help stabilize the mixture. To improve the durability and toughness of glass, aluminum and titanium may be added. This slurry is fed into the melting furnace that operates at about 1500 degrees Celsius. Here, the recycled glass may also be added. This can be in the form of small pieces or bits.

The slurry melts in the furnace at the super-elevated temperature. At this temperature, the glass is sticky, and its consistency resembles that of chewing gum. It is let to remain at this temperature before it is passed through heated tubes to be cut into smaller pieces. Its temperature is around 1200 degrees Celsius now.

The smaller pieces are pressed using heavy pressers and are made flat. Then, a blower is used to supply air at high pressure. This air stream hits the center of the flat disc and it is strong enough to shape the flat sheet into a jar. The accurate design is made using smaller blowers so that perfection is achieved. The mould is then sent for cooling. A water-cooled mould is used to encapsulate the jar. The mould opens after a few seconds, and the glass is cooled to about 400 degrees Celsius.

At this temperature, glass is relatively cooler but is very breakable and has to be handled delicately. So, there is a temporary layer that is placed on the glass product to be able to carry it around the manufacturing unit without causing any damage to it.
The jar is inverted, and a torch is used to heat its bottom. This is done for the glass products to get stems and bases. Another round of careful firing is done to shape the bases. It may be subjected to further heat treatment for the perfection of shape. After this, it is left to cool down. Two to three hours may be required for this.

The temporary layer is removed after it cools down. These are sent back to the melting unit and are reused. Sandpaper is used to smoothen the sharp corners that may cause cuts or wounds. But, even after this process, they are very tough to handle. So, the rims are reheated to about 1200 degrees Celsius and are immediately subjected to the smoothening process. It is after this process that the glass is safe to handle and touch by hand.
The products are checked for cracks and air bubbles that may be trapped. If there are no damages found, they are packed and shipped to the clients.
